With the threat of snow out of the way the temperature is expected to reach a high of 36 degrees today with partly coldly skies and wind. Much of the same is expected for Tuesday as well. There is a possibility of snow late Wednesday night.
Speaking of snow, Long Island on Sunday waved farewell to a winter storm churning up the Eastern Seaboard, with not even a lone snowflake having fallen in the region by 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service
Weather service meteorologist David Stark said there remained a chance of a flurry on Montauk Point through midnight as the storm system passed by, but no chance of any snow accumulating.
There had been a buzz last week about the could-be blizzard, as Sunday marked the anniversary of a monster storm that dumped a record 26-plus inches of snow on the Island last year. As it turned out, the system that missed us did most of its damage in the South.
It left thousands of people in North Carolina and Virginia without power, and icy roads stretched through parts of Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Delaware. Four people died in accidents attributed to the storm, The Associated Press reported.
Stark said overall weather this week should be dry and cold on Long Island, with the prospect of snow on Christmas.
"There is something we are keeping an eye on," Stark said. "There's currently a 40 percent chance. But it's a week away and there's too much uncertainty there."
