Anti-police graffiti found in Island Park, Nassau police say

Nassau County police are investigating anti-police graffiti found Wednesday morning in Island Park.

The graffiti, which included the words “no pigs” scrawled on the outside wall of an office building at Hempstead Town-owned Shell Creek Park on Vanderbilt Avenue, was discovered at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday by park employees, police said.

The employees then called police to report the vandalism, which also included other writings on a Town of Hempstead sign, a storage shed and a brick wall at the park, police said.

That graffiti appeared to be nicknames or “tags.”

The vandalism was committed sometime between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. There are no surveillance cameras in the park, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
