Two Hempstead men were charged Tuesday with more than a dozen burglary counts after police said the duo pried open "numerous ATM machines," stealing cash, in a countywide spree that appears to have started in April.
Arrested were Kevin Calloway, 51, and Dwayne Williams, 52. Each was charged with 14 counts of third-degree burglary, police said.
Nassau police said the ATMs were in restaurants and other commercial buildings — in one instance inside a barbershop — and said those businesses were in Uniondale, Plainview, Hewlett, Franklin Square, Oceanside and other sites in Nassau.
Police did not immediately release details on the amount of cash stolen during the burglaries, but said the arrests followed "an extensive investigation" by Major Case Squad detectives. There were no reported injuries associated with the spree or the arrests.
The two men are scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
It was not immediately clear if either is represented by counsel.
