Cops: Missing woman's body found, suspect arrested
The body of a 26-year-old North Patchogue woman who had been missing since March 24 was found late Monday in a wooded area along the north service road of the Long Island Expressway in Medford, Suffolk County police said.
A man, whose identity has not been released, has been arrested in the case, police said.
Police would not say if the arrest was made prior to finding the body Jennifer Papain of Harper Street. Police also would not say what led them to the location west of Bellport Avenue where the body was found.
Papain had labeled the case a "suspicious disappearance" when news of her disappearance broke in early April. The woman's family had offered a $1,000 reward -- and Suffolk Det. Sgt. Mark Pulaski of the Fugitive / Missing Persons unit said then: "We've been looking for her for a while."
Papain was last seen when police said a male friend drove her to Bay Shore Road in Bay Shore -- and she exited the vehicle at about 5:30 p.m. She never returned, the friend told police.
"There wasn't any disputes or anything like that," Pulaski said in April, adding: "It wasn't that she had an altercation in the car or anything. She just didn't come back."
