A Bay Shore man was arrested on Wednesday, charged in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning that killed a pedestrian, Suffolk police said.
Police charged Alexander Cerda, 21, with leaving the scene of a fatality, following a crash just after 2 a.m. when he struck and killed Eric Perez, 52, of Bay Shore, as Perez was crossing Main Street early Saturday, Suffolk County police said in a press release.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said, adding Cerda drove off.
Cerda also was charged with grand larceny, accused of stealing a 2018 Toyota RAV4 that, police said, was believed to be the same vehicle involved in the crash. He was charged too with criminal mischief, accused of breaking the window of a home.
Cerda was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Central Islip. A defense attorney was not listed.
