New York State Police say boy, 4, has died of injuries in Southern State crash

A four-year-old boy who was injured in a single-vehicle crash earlier this month on the Southern State Parkway in the Town of Hempstead has died, according to the New York State Police.
The boy had been a passenger in a 2006 Nissan Sentra on June 17 about 2 p.m. when its driver, a 31-year-old woman, lost control while attempting to avoid hitting another vehicle west of exit 20N, the state police said. The Sentra hit a tree off the highway before coming to a stop in a wooded area.
Investigators are searching for the driver of the "unknown black vehicle" who failed to stop after the crash, according to the state police.
The woman and the boy were both hospitalized afterward. The woman suffered nonlife-threatening injuries.
Investigators are requesting that anyone with information about the crash call the New York State Police at (631) 756-3300.
