Gold Ford or Mercury sedan driver fatally hit 84-year-old man, cops say
Police are searching for the driver of a car that struck and killed an 84-year-old man as he attempted to cross Merrick Road earlier this month in Lynbrook, then fled the scene.
The hit-and-run driver was behind the wheel of what Nassau County police said was believed to be a gold-colored Ford or Mercury sedan. Police on Tuesday issued a photo of a similar-looking vehicle.
The crash occurred on the eastbound roadway at Hilton Street at about 9:05 p.m. on Dec. 3. The victim was crossing north to south when the crash occurred.
Police said the driver didn’t stop.
The victim died at the scene.
Police are asking anyone with information about the fatal accident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. Or, police said, callers can contact Det. John Lapine or any member of the Homicide Squad VCARS unit at 516-573-7788.
