Suffolk County police searching for man in waters off Smith Point County Park

A man is feared missing in the waters off Smith Point County Park after an eyewitness saw someone in the shallow ocean who then vanished, the Suffolk County Police Department said late Wednesday.

Police officers were still continuing to search for the man by boat and helicopter three hours after he went missing about 5:45 p.m., the press office wrote in an email.

The eyewitness reported the missing man to the police after the “concerned citizen said they saw a man in the shallow water and no longer see him.”
