Robert Buerkle, 17, of West Babylon, killed in collision with pickup truck in Babylon

A teenage boy riding a motorcycle was killed in a crash with a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon at a Babylon intersection, Suffolk police said.
Robert Buerkle, 17, of West Babylon, was driving a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle west on West Main Street at 3:08 p.m. when a 2022 Chevrolet pickup truck struck him, Suffolk police said in a news release. The truck was turning into the eastbound lanes on West Main Street from Tappan Avenue when the collision occurred.
After he was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, Buerkle was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the Chevrolet, 84, was not injured.
Police impounded both vehicles to conduct a safety check, according to the release.
Police ask anyone with information regarding the collision to contact First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152.
