Three people led Hempstead Village police on a vehicle chase and when they crashed Thursday, a robbery victim arrived to say he had tracked his cellphone to the crash scene, Nassau County police said Friday.
Officers found a shotgun in the vehicle, police said, and as Hempstead Village police tried to arrest the three, one of them punched an officer.
Courtney Babb, 19, Christopher M. Anderson, 20, and Kales Q. Ward, 22, were arraigned Friday and each was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault and criminal possession of stolen property.
Police said Babb refused to pull over for an officer about 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the village and instead sped to Garden City, where she crashed at Washington and Garden streets.
When officers tried to arrest Ward, he resisted and punched an officer, police said. Another count of second-degree assault was filed against him. Details on the officer’s injury were not available Friday, police said.
Then as officers processed the crime scene, a 26-year-old man told them he had been robbed and that his cellphone locator had led him to the intersection, police said.
Babb was also charged with unlawfully fleeing police, reckless endangerment and various driving infractions, including speeding and running a red light, online court records show.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond for Babb, of Locust Court in Rockville Centre, and $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond for Ward, of Fredrick Avenue in Freeport, and for Anderson, of West Fulton Avenue in Roosevelt. Babb was represented by Legal Aid, which has a policy of not discussing cases, and the men were represented by court-appointed attorneys, who could not be reached.
Other details were not available. Hempstead police referred questions to Nassau police.
