Woman cheated out of $8G in Hempstead rental scam, police say

A Queens man cheated a woman out of $8,000 by pretending to be a rental agent, Nassau County police said Thursday in announcing his arrest.
Ranjit Lal, 36, of 97th Avenue in Richmond Hill, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
He collected the money from the victim, 41, from Nov. 20 to Nov. 28 after falsely representing himself as the agent for a rental property in Hempstead, police said.
Lal was arrested Thursday night at his attorney’s office without incident, police said.
