Nassau crossing guard struck by vehicle in Merrick, police say

A Nassau County school crossing guard was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning in Merrick, Nassau County police said.
The crossing guard, a man, was transported to a hospital after being struck near the Merrick Long Island Rail Road station on Sunrise Highway, said Det. Tracey Cabey, a department spokesperson.
The crossing guard, who works for the Nassau County Police Department, was hit just after 8 a.m., Cabey said.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, he said.
No further information was immediately available.
