The Suffolk County Water Authority has issued a directive to its customers that they refrain from watering their lawns "immediately."
In an email to its customers Wednesday afternoon, the authority said it is reaching its "maximum capacity under current drought and heat conditions," and that users could experience low water pressure in early morning hours, the time of peak demand.
"Halting lawn watering is necessary to ensure we maintain adequate water pressure for essential indoor use and emergency fire response, the emailed statement said.
The water authority serves 1.2 million customers in Suffolk County.
