LIRR: Broken rail repaired on part of Port Washington line

Train service has been restored between Great Neck and Port Washington, just in time for the evening rush, according to the Long Island Rail Road.

“Repairs to the broken rail near Great Neck have been completed and full train service is restored in both directions,” the LIRR said.

Buses had been used to replace trains between Great Neck and Port Washington after the Monday morning rush hour as the LIRR made permanent repairs to the rail near Great Neck.

Service had been suspended during the overnight hours because of the broken rail on that section of the Port Washington branch, but a temporary fix allowed train service during the morning rush, Donovan said.

There also had been residual delays of 10 to 15 minutes in both directions Monday morning on the Port Washington branch because of signal trouble outside the East River tunnels, but that was cleared up by late morning, Donovan said.
