A teenage bicyclist was critically injured and hospitalized after he collided with another vehicle in Miller Place, the Suffolk County Police Department said.

The crash occurred on State Route 25A about 3:20 p.m. when the driver of a westbound a Ford F-550 XL Super Duty commercial truck merged to turn left into Delea Sod Farms, Suffolk police said in a news release. As the truck turned, the bicyclist, 14, of Miller Place, who was heading east on the shoulder "struck his bicycle into the passenger side door of the truck," the release said.

After the collision, the teen fell off his bike and was run over by the truck's rear passenger side tires, police said. The truck driver stopped the vehicle and dialed 911.

The teenager was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, police said. The driver of the Ford was not injured. The Suffolk police's Highway Patrol Bureau's Motor Carrier Safety Section inspected the vehicle at the scene.

The crash occurred within eight hours of a bicyclist being struck and killed in a hit-and-run on Beech Street in Atlantic Beach. Nassau police arrested and charged the driver, Erin M. Henry, 67, of Long Beach, with leaving the scene of an incident causing a death, Newsday previously reported. She will be arraigned on Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
