A 36-year-old man was killed and his older brother injured in a hit-and-run accident Saturday morning in Uniondale, Nassau County police said.

The brothers were attempting to cross Jerusalem Avenue at Leonard Avenue when they were struck by a car about 12:30 a.m.

The car, which is described as compact and maroon-colored, possibly with four doors, fled the scene eastbound on Jerusalem Avenue, police said.

County ambulance crews took the 36-year-old victim to a hospital where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.

His 49-year-old brother was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in stable condition, being treated for a head injury, police said.

Their identities have been withheld, pending notification of their family, police said.

Detectives ask anyone with information about this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
