1 dead, 1 hurt in separate shootings
One man died and another was being treated at a Nassau hospital following unrelated assaults early Sunday morning, Nassau Police said.
In Hempstead, Jose Rodriguez, 25, was shot in the leg while walking near Linden Avenue and Linden Place at 1:20 a.m. Police found him unconscious after witnesses reported seeing him staggering in the street. Rodriguez, of Hempstead, died from his injuries shortly before 4 p.m. at Nassau University Medical Center.
In Elmont, a 20-year-old man was shot and stabbed after a dispute at a party on Troy Avenue at 1:25 a.m. Police said he was stabbed three times in the chest, then shot in the leg while being kicked by several men.
The victim, whom police did not identify, was in stable condition at a Nassau hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
