2 arrested in Franklin Square bank robbery

Two men already in jail facing other charges were charged Thursday in the June robbery of a Franklin Square bank, Nassau police said.

David Traversa, 19, who is homeless, and George Armstrong, 20, of Rockville Centre, were charged with third-degree robbery and third-degree larceny, police said.

On June 6, they handed a note to a teller at Ridgewood Savings Bank, 1010 Hempstead Tpke., and were seen escaping north on Pacific Street with the money, police said. Ten employees and three customers were in the bank at about 10:37 a.m., the time of the robbery, police said.

Armstrong, of 279 Lakeview Avenue, was also charged with six other unrelated warrant charges, police said.

The two were in jail after being arrested in Long Beach June 9 in other crimes, police said. They are expected to be arraigned on those charges Friday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said, but it was not immediately clear when they would be arraigned on the robbery charges.
