2 charged with using counterfeit bills in Manhasset
Two Queens men have been arrested after they used counterfeit $20 bills to make a purchase from Lord & Taylor, then returned the item to get cash back, police said.
Police said William Zuleta, 21, of 2117 Francis Lewis Blvd. in Whitestone, was arrested Thursday on Jamaica Avenue in Queens. Previously, police arrested Andrew Surgenor, 22, of 2370 A Corp. Kennedy St. in Bayside, at his home on Jan. 23. Both have been charged with four counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, police said.
The alleged crime occurred on Nov. 12 at the Lord & Taylor on Northern Boulevard in Manhasset. It was then, police said, that the two men used 23 counterfeit $20 bills to make a purchase. A short time later, police said, the pair returned the purchase -- for real cash.
Additional details of the case were not available.
Police said Surgenor was arraigned on Jan. 24 and Zuleta is scheduled for arraignment on Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
