Police in Nassau County are asking the public's help in solving a three-month old cash register heist in Bethpage.

Two thieves opened the cash drawer of an unattended register at the Ace Hardware store on Aug. 17 and took money, police said.

Management noticed the theft at the end of business that day, when the register came up short.

A manager reviewed surveillance video and saw the thieves in action: one put a large box in front of the register to block the view of customers and staff, while the other thief unlocked the register.

The store is at 3899 Hempstead Tpke.

It wasn't clear whether the drawer was locked at the time of the theft. Police didn't say how much was stolen.
