Police arrested two teenagers in connection with a shooting in Hempstead Saturday night in which a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg when three people on bicycles fired guns into a park.

The victim, who was not named by police, was transported to a local hospital for injuries that did not appear life threatening, police said. The shots were fired into Brierley Park off of Dartmouth Street, police said.

Police said they found two of the suspects riding bicycles west on VanCott Avenue.

Taki White, 17, of Bennington Avenue in Freeport, was charged with first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, second-degree criminal use of a firearm, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment, police said. Jamel Cummings, 19, of Maple Avenue in Hempstead, was charged with first-degree attempted assault and second-degree assault, police said.

White and Cummings are scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Monday. White has been charged as an adult.

A third subject is still at large, police said. Police request anyone with information call 1-800-244-TIPS. Callers will remain anonymous, police said.
