One of two elderly women struck by a car while trying to cross Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park Friday evening has died, Nassau County police said.

The women, aged 75 and 80, were crossing from north to south in front of 214 Jericho Tpke. at about 6:45 p.m. when police said they were hit by an 18-year-old driving a 2003 Nissan Xterra.

Both women were taken to a local hospital by the New Hyde Park Fire Department.

The 75-year-old suffered serious head trauma and later died at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, police said.

The 80-year-old suffered a broken femur.

Police said the driver, identified only as a Garden City resident, is not facing any charges.
