2nd time car hits spa in chain

A car was driven into the entrance of the Cactus Day Salon in Plainview. (Aug. 4, 2011)
Dawn Atan was heading out after saying good night to her staff at the Cactus Salon and Day Spa in Plainview Thursday evening when the salon manager had to head right back to the business on Old Country Road.
A new, white Audi had hopped the curb and rammed into the storefront at 1109 Old Country Rd., Atan said Friday. No charges were filed in the incident.
Fortunately, neither the female driver nor the six salon employees and the lone customer were injured in the accident, which happened shortly before 8 p.m.
"I was heading to the Jericho library," Atan said, "and went right back to the salon."
The salon was open for business Friday although the front window was still boarded up, owner Carolyn DeVito said. Workers stayed until well after 2 a.m. to clean the salon and close the opening left by the wayward car.
"Did you know we are now a drive-through retail center?" DeVito joked.
It's the second time in less than a month a Cactus Salon on Long Island had a vehicle come through the front window.
On July 6, a minivan driven by a woman, 74, plowed into a Dix Hills Cactus Salon, injuring a customer.
In that accident, the minivan went about 20 feet into the storefront at 1262 E. Jericho Tpke. A Commack woman who was a customer was taken to a hospital with leg injuries, Suffolk County police said.
