Oyster Bay's town board will hold a public hearing Tuesday morning on its plan to declare three vacant Locust Valley buildings unsafe, a precursor to demolition.

Town officials have long thought of the boarded-up apartments, at 7 and 13 13th St. and 398 Forest Ave., as a blight to the community. On a recent afternoon, pieces of trash, including empty liquor bottles, littered the fenced-off properties.

If the buildings' owners do not agree to maintain or demolish the structures, the town's declaration would lay the groundwork to force such an action. Under town code, a dangerous structure may include those that are vacant, dilapidated, containing faulty electrical wiring, or that have become a public nuisance.

The hearing will take place during the board's regular meeting, beginning at 10 a.m. at Town Hall at 54 Audrey Ave. in Oyster Bay.
