4 arrested in Hempstead attempted holdup
Two Hempstead men face robbery and menacing charges for using a BB gun in an attempted streetside holdup early Friday, Nassau County police said.
A man, 58, was standing outside his residence on Rutland Road in Hempstead at about 1:45 a.m. when three men pulled up in a 1998 Toyota with North Carolina license plates, police said.
The front-seat passenger pointed a gun at the man, demanding money, police said.
The man told them he did not have any money, and the three men in the car ordered him to the ground before driving off, police said.
The three then picked up another man before police stopped the car at Paff Avenue in Uniondale.
Police arrested the driver, Marvin Valenzuele, 18, of 75 President St., Hempstead, and the front-seat passenger, Jose Rivera, 18, of 124 Terrace Ave., Hempstead, on charges of robbery and menacing.
Rivera pointed the BB gun at the victim, and the BB gun was found in the car, police said.
Two other passengers, Jonathan Rivera, 18, of 23 Van Cott Ave., Hempstead, and Raymond Martinez, 20, of 560 Paff Ave., Uniondale, were arrested on possession of marijuana.
Martinez was picked up by the three men after they tried to hold up the victim, police said.
Jose Rivera and Valenzuele are scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead. Jonathan Rivera and Martinez are scheduled to appear March 6 in First District Court.
