Four Baldwin firefighters sustained minor burns during an afternoon house fire Tuesday on Brookwood Drive.

About 80 firefighters responded to a call at 1:29 p.m. to find the single-family, split-level ranch home fully engulfed in flames, said 1st Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Schwenker III of the Baldwin Fire Department.

"It was a well-involved house fire," Schwenker said.

The family's teenage daughter and two younger siblings were in the home. All escaped without injuries.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross was on the scene Tuesday to provide assistance to the family members, who were unable to return to the home because of the extent of the damage.

The injured firefighters were treated at the scene.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by Nassau County fire officials, Schwenker said.
