4 face attempted robbery charges

A 17-year-old Malverne woman and three acquaintances are under arrest, charged with attempted robbery, after the woman conspired with the trio to rob a man she was meeting to talk about a job, police said.

All four were charged with attempted first-degree robbery, while Gries, Thurmond and Davis were also charged with fourth-degree conspiracy.

Thurmond also was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said that Gries, under "the pretense of obtaining a job," arranged to meet the 32-year-old male victim just after 2 a.m. Sunday.

But, police said, as Gries approached the victim's car the man noticed one of the accomplices, became nervous -- and drove off. As he did, police said, Thurmond fired a gunshot at the vehicle, striking the dashboard. The victim was not injured by the shot, police said.

Police said the gun was recovered during the arrests.

Arraignment details were not immediately available.
