Nassau County police rescued a group of passengers on a stranded sailboat off Sands Point on Friday night.

Police said its Marine Bureau received a distress call at about 7 p.m. from a man who said he had been sailing in Half Moon Bay and lost power during a storm. The captain said the 32-foot boat was drifting toward rocks.

Officers responded and were able to tow the sailboat to safer waters until Sea Tow could arrive and take the boat to Manhasset Bay.

Police said there were four people, including the captain, on the boat and none were injured.
