A 911 call reporting shots fired in Lakeview led to the arrest of five people Thursday afternoon in South Hempstead, Nassau County police said.
Arrested were Andre Walker, 22, of 62 Angevine Ave., Hempstead, Marshall Thomas, 16, of 35 Elizabeth Ave., Hempstead, Anthony Joseph, 18, of 29 Laurel Ave., Hempstead, Jordan Nealy, 16, of 444 Jefferson Ave., Lakeview, and John Meekins, 27, of 1022 Saranac Rd., West Hempstead, police said. Each was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
Police said the five were seen running out of a wooded area across from a residence on Pinelake Drive after three gunshots were heard. They were then seen entering "an older model Lincoln Town Car" before fleeing, police said.
After patrol units were notified, the car was spotted on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 17, Hempstead Avenue, then followed to Exit 20, Baldwin Road-Grand Avenue, where the driver lost control of the vehicle and stopped the car on the exit ramp, police said.
The five men tried to run away but were arrested, police said.
Police said a black handgun was recovered from the rear floor of the car.
All five men were scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
