Two adults and three children escaped a house fire early Sunday morning in Lakeview, according to Lakeview Fire Department Chief Michael Joyce.

A woman woke at 6:30 a.m. to the smell of smoke from her child's bedroom, Joyce said, and soon the bedroom was engulfed in flames. The mother, three children and another woman staying at the house escaped safely. The children's father was at work, according to the fire chief.

Thirty Lakeview firefighters arrived within minutes at 576 Lincoln Avenue, extinguishing the fire with two hoses, he said.

An electrical problem appears to have caused the fire, Joyce said, but the fire marshal is investigating.

The family is staying with relatives, according to the fire chief. American Red Cross in Nassau County is providing them with funds for food and clothing, according to a spokesman for the group. The Red Cross has arranged for the second woman, who was renting part of the house, to stay in a motel and to receive funds for food and clothing.
