Four occupants of a Uniondale home were injured in a Sunday morning fire along with a Nassau County police officer who helped them escape, authorities said.
Occupants of the Chester Street home woke to the sound of a smoke alarm and found heavy smoke in the living room, police said.
The injured were treated for smoke inhalation at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow; a 19-year-old woman was also treated for burns to her hands.
The Uniondale Fire Department responded to the 8:42 a.m. call and brought the fire under control in 45 minutes, said Chief Anthony Lebron.
Authorities did not release the names of the injured.
Lebron said that the Nassau County Fire Marshall was investigating the fire's cause.
