911 dispatcher, Nassau paramedics help mom save son with Narcan injection

A Hicksville mother trying to revive her son from a drug overdose received a helping hand from Nassau paramedics Sunday morning.

Nassau police said the mother called 911 shortly after 7:30 a.m. reporting her 19-year-old son was not breathing due to an overdose. She had a Narcan rescue kit available to provide the overdose reversal medicine to her son, but was having trouble assembling the device.

The 911 dispatcher transferred the call to a paramedic, who "was able to talk the mother through assembling the kit and administering a dose of Narcan," police officials said.

A Nassau police ambulance arrived about five minutes later, and, after giving the man another dose of Narcan, transported him "conscious and alert" to a hospital for treatment.
