Accident closes Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont
Nassau County police closed Hempstead Turnpike at Stone Street in Elmont Monday afternoon after a two-car accident left a pole in the roadway.
Traffic in both direction was diverted at 2:45 p.m., a police spokesman said.
There was no word on how long the road will be closed, and police were not sure if the accident resulted in injuries.
