Accident slows Southern State in Deer Park

A car in the left lane struck the concrete barrier and the accident closed two westbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway near Deer Park Friday morning, according to a state Department of Transportation traffic alert.

The driver had neck and back pain and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, said spokesman Frank Bandiero of the State Police. No other information was available on her injuries.

A camera near the accident, between Exits 38 and 39, showed stopped traffic in the center and left lanes and police and emergency vehicles at the scene.

The DOT issued its traffic alert at 7:12 a.m. and the situation was resolved in a little more than an hour, Bandiero said.
