An accused hit-and-run driver turned himself in to police a day after fatally striking a man in Bellmore, Nassau County police said Saturday.

Police identified the driver as Ryan P. Quinn, 45, of Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park, and the pedestrian as Anthony J. DeRosa, 64, of Floral Park. The crash happened Friday about 9:20 p.m. as DeRosa tried to walk north across Sunrise Highway near Washington Avenue, police said.

Quinn was going east in the left lane, police said. Quinn was to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with death, police said.

Police said Quinn, a mechanic, turned himself in at the police department's Mineola headquarters at about 3 p.m. The car was also impounded.
