AirTrain service from Jamaica station was temporarily suspended Monday morning because of a mechanical problem with the system, a Port Authority spokesman said.

Service is expected to be out for at least until midday, when repairs are likely to be completed, spokesman Steve Coleman said. A service alert was issued at about 9 a.m., he said.

Free shuttle buses are being provided at Jamaica and Howard Beach stations, Coleman said.

Commuters heading to JFK Airport this morning should allow extra time, the Port Authority said in a release.
