A Hicksville man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and a Leandra's Law violation after he crashed into oncoming traffic on Friday afternoon with his teenage son in the car, Nassau County police said.

Police said Ajith Sreekumaran, 44, was driving his 2014 Toyota Rav4 on Woodbury Road in Hicksville about 12:30 p.m. with his son, 15, in the car when he turned right onto Bay Avenue, drove into oncoming traffic and hit a car stopped at a red light. No one was hurt in the crash, police said.

Sreekumaran, of Vincent Road, is charged with Leandra's Law aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration .08 percent or more.

Leandra's Law, named for 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, makes it a felony on first offense to drive drunk with a passenger 15 years of age or younger in the vehicle.

Rosado was killed in a DWI accident in October 2009 when the vehicle she was riding in overturned on the Henry Hudson Parkway in Manhattan.

Sreekumaran is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
