Amityville mall facade collapses
A facade collapsed overnight at an Amityville strip mall, filling a parking lot with rubble. Inspectors were trying to determine on Tuesday what prompted the collapse.
Police said no one was injured in the Tuesday 12:30 a.m. collapse at the mall on Merrick Road at South Ketcham Avenue.
Amityville Village police and village inspectors were on the scene. Electricity and gas were shut off to stores in the mall so investigators could examine the site. Police said there are about 10 stores in the strip mall.
Investigators said they have been unable to locate the owner, who is believed to be on vacation.
