Ammonia fumes coming from a faulty valve at a food production company in East Garden City on Friday forced its evacuation, police said. Six people were treated for minor eye and skin irritation, Nassau police said.

Seviroli Foods, Inc., of 601 Brook St., was evacuated about 5 p.m., shortly after the report of the excessive ammonia gas fumes, police said.

Four occupants of the building were treated at local hospitals, and two responding police officers were treated at the scene, police said.

The faulty valve was quickly repaired, police said, and the building vented of the ammonia fumes.
