Kings Park man sped past trooper, drove drunk with kids in car, say state troopers

State troopers arrested a Kings Park man on the Northern State Parkway Sunday and charged him with driving while intoxicated with his 3- and 5-year-old children in tow.
Anthony Martarana, 30, was arraigned Monday, charged with being in violation of Leandra's Law and other offenses in First District Court in Hempstead. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
Officials said Martarana was first pulled over for speeding by a trooper from the Lake Success barracks shortly before 11 p.m. at Exit 32 on the Northern State Parkway near Post Avenue in Westbury. The trooper reported the odor of alcohol while questioning Martarana, police said.
Martarana failed sobriety tests, registering a blood alcohol content of .08 percent, and was charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony and violation of Leandra's Law since he was traveling with children under 16 years old, police said. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and traffic violations, police said.
Martarana was being held on $3,000 bond or $1,500 cash and is due back in court May 27, officials said.
