An armed Freeport man surrendered to Emergency Services Unit officers and was taken to a local hospital for observation after he barricaded himself in his home Wednesday night, Nassau County police said.

The man, whose identity was not released, had a knife and threatened to commit suicide, police said. Family members were evacuated from the home on Second Street and South Main Street in Freeport. Police said a doctor treating the man was on the scene, as well.

"The situation was resolved without incident," a police spokeswoman said Thursday, adding no charges were filed against the man. No one was injured, she said.
