Nassau County police are seeking an armed man who tried to rob a gas station in Bellmore early Sunday.

Police said a man wearing a black jacket, black hat and a scarf and carrying a black handgun went to the BP gas station at 2425 Merrick Rd. just after midnight.

A 22-year-old male employee at the station saw the suspect try the door, which was locked, before running north on Newbridge Road toward Sunrise Highway, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. Callers will be kept anonymous.
