A Hempstead man was arrested Wednesday and charged in a Hempstead bank robbery that took place in May 2013, police said.

Arnold Handfield, 52, of 17 St. Pauls North, was charged with third-degree robbery, as well as on two open warrants -- for petty larceny and disorderly conduct, police said.

Nassau County police did not immediately say what led robbery squad detectives to arrest Handfield.

Police said Handfield robbed a TD Bank branch on Peninsula Boulevard in Hempstead on May 3, 2013, entering the bank and presenting a teller with a demand note. The teller complied, police said, and Handfield fled with cash.

Seven employees and two customers were in the bank when it was robbed, police said. There were no injuries.

Handfield was arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead. Bail was set $100,000 cash or bond. He was represented by Legal Aid, which does not comment on cases.
