Police said Peter DeJesus was a regular customer at the Village Convenience Store on Centre Avenue in East Rockaway. Apparently, he never noticed the surveillance cameras.

Those cameras caught DeJesus, 37, of Scranton Avenue, East Rockaway, attempting to rob the store Tuesday evening by breaking the front glass door to the store, Nassau County police said. That was at 8:20 p.m. Police said DeJesus returned to the scene at 11:13 p.m. -- again attempting to break the glass door to enter.

A check of the surveillance video showed that DeJesus had also tried to break into the store by breaking the glass door at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, police said. Police said DeJesus was identified because he was "recognized to be a regular customer" at the store.

DeJesus was arrested at his home Wednesday and charged with two counts of third-degree attempted burglary, police said.

He was arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead. Arraignment details were not available.
