A would-be bank robber fled the scene of an attempted robbery Thursday in Carle Place when the teller he was robbing at gunpoint yelled to a co-worker, Nassau police said.

Now, cops are searching for the armed robber.

Police said the attempted robbery occurred at a Chase bank branch on Old Country Road just before 8:30 a.m. The robber fled on foot -- without any proceeds -- west on Old Country Road.

The suspect is described as being about 6-foot-2 and, police said, he wore a tan Panama hat, a light-blue button-down shirt, blue jeans -- and a black bandanna that covered his face.

There were two employees in the bank at the time of the attempted robbery, police said.

There were no injuries reported.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
