At least one person was taken by medical helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow after a three-vehicle crash Thursday on the Long Island Expressway in Old Westbury, Nassau County police said.
Details were not immediately unclear.
Police said the crash involved a tractor-trailer, a dump truck and a passenger car -- and left one truck overturned. The crash occurred at 11:05 a.m. between Exits 40 and 39, forcing the immediate closure of all lanes as police diverted westbound traffic off the road at Exit 40, Jericho Turnpike.
Police reopened the left-hand lane and the HOV lane to traffic at about 1 p.m.
All four lanes were opened and the situation was resolved at about 2:20 p.m., according to the state's Department of Transportation website.
