Attempted murder charge in stabbing
A Queens man is under arrest, charged with attempted murder, after he tried to kill his estranged wife's boyfriend Sunday in Lynbrook, police said.
Nassau County police said Lester Achaibar, 30, of 157th Avenue in Lindenwood, let himself into the home on Rolling Street with a key, took a knife from the kitchen and slashed his estranged wife's 36-year-old boyfriend on the torso at 5:40 p.m.
When the victim locked himself in a bathroom, police said Achaibar fired a gunshot through the bathroom wall before fleeing the house.
Police said the victim, whose identity was not released, was not struck by the gunfire, but he was taken to a hospital for treatment of a five-inch gash suffered in the slashing.
Achaibar surrendered to police at the Fifth Precinct Monday. He was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
