The dead baby discovered on the conveyor belt of a Lawrence sanitation facility was stillborn, Nassau police said Monday.

A police spokesman did not respond to questions about the status of the investigation.

Police received a call last Tuesday about 2:21 p.m. from the facility, Sanitary District 1 at 2 Bay Blvd., reporting what police said was a "deceased fetus."

The baby, who was a boy, according to a worker, was not breathing and still had the umbilical cord and placenta attached, an official said.

A worker at the facility told Newsday another worker had found the baby inside a bag on a conveyor belt in a recycling area of the plant.
