Baby-sitter accused of stealing from home
A Farmingdale woman was arrested Monday on charges of grand larceny after she was suspected of stealing and pawning jewelry from her employer's home across a span of several months, Nassau police said.
Lorin Sepetci, of 221 Cherry St. in Farmingdale, worked as a baby-sitter at the victim's Plainview home from May 2011 until Jan. 3, 2012, according to police. During that time, Sepetci, 20, allegedly stole more than $3,000 in jewelry from the female victim, which she then pawned and sold at various jewelry stores, police said.
Police spokesman Eric Evensen advised that people who have strangers regularly coming into their homes keep their valuables locked in a safe.
"As much as you think you might know them or trust them, keep your jewelry out of plain view or easily accessible areas," Evensen said.
Police said Sepetci was located Monday and placed under arrest without incident. She was charged with third-degree grand larceny and will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
