Long Island traffic wasn’t going to stop one urgent delivery Thursday evening.

A baby boy was born in the North Wantagh area along the side of the Southern State Parkway near the westbound entrance for the Wantagh State Parkway around 5:45 p.m., State Police confirmed.

The woman and her husband were rushing to get to the hospital but he realized they could not make it in time and pulled over, a police official said.

The Wantagh Fire Department responded to the scene with an ambulance staffed with three paramedics. A healthy baby boy was delivered several minutes after the ambulance arrived, said Wantagh Fire Department spokesman Kevin Regan.

The mother and child were taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow and are in good condition, Regan said.

It is the couple’s second child.
